Deck Mate Description
We are seeking a Deck Mate to play a vital role in supporting the overall safety and effectiveness of our maritime operations. You will work closely with the Captain and crew, assist in vessel navigation, cargo handling, maintenance, and safety procedures while adhering to industry regulations and best practices.
- Assist the Captain in safely navigating the vessel, monitoring charts, and tracking weather conditions
- Stand watch, operate vessel controls, and make course adjustments as needed
- Implement and enforce safety protocols, ensuring all crew members adhere to safety procedures and regulations
- Participate in safety drills and respond to emergencies, such as man-overboard situations or fire and flooding incidents
- Help oversee the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring proper stowage, and securing of cargo, and verifying accurate documentation
- Monitor the safe stowage and securing of cargo to prevent damage or loss during transit
- Assist with the routine maintenance of vessel equipment and systems, ensuring their proper working condition
- Participate in minor repairs and troubleshooting, or coordinate with maintenance teams for major repairs
- Maintain clear communication with the Captain, crew members, and shore personnel to relay navigational data, weather updates, and operational requirements
- Operate and monitor communication equipment, including radios and satellite systems
- Maintain accurate logs, including navigational records, safety reports, and maintenance records
- Work effectively as part of the crew, assisting with various tasks as required for the overall operation and maintenance of the vessel
Deck Mate Qualifications
- Driver’s License or Passport
- STCW
- 2 years of experience as a Deck Mate or in a similar maritime role
- Strong knowledge of vessel navigation, seamanship, and cargo handling.
