Field Service Engineer Description
This position will develop, install, troubleshoot and repair Electrical and Industrial Automation systems with a focus on Medium Voltage power systems. Travel may include anywhere in the US and possibly offshore vessels and/or international destinations.
- New equipment startups, electrical, instrumentation, automation I/O check, cold and hot testing, and some mechanical assembly may be required
- Provide technical assistance to customers and fellow shop employees in person, over the phone and through email
- Troubleshoot and pinpoint system problems, repair and perform maintenance for customer operation
- Effectively communicate technical information and help manage controls, instrumentation, and electrical portions of projects, VFD knowledge a plus
- Test and rack MV breakers for systems
- Create customer relationships for ongoing service opportunities
- Remain on call for emergency service opportunities and call outs
Field Service Engineer Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Mechanical or Electrical or equivalent in experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
- Able to understand, perform maintenance and troubleshoot medium voltage systems
- Experience with MV switch gear, generators, breakers, etc. and low voltage systems a plus
- Prior experience in customer service areas and working with public
- Electrical system experience (troubleshooting and rebuilding components) preferred
- 5 years of technical experience with electrical, controls/instrumentation, PLC’s, VFD’s, pneumatics, or hydraulics
- Ability and willingness to learn new tasks not limited to electrical and controls
- Strong understanding of various electrical schematic types
