Lead Controls Commissioning Engineer

Job Summary
In this critical position, you will oversee the commissioning of control systems, working closely with design, construction, and operations teams to ensure seamless project execution from concept through to operational handover.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the turnover of instrumentation systems from construction to commissioning.
  • Act as the primary liaison between engineering/design teams and operations.
  • Oversee control system architecture execution, including integration of HMI, SCADA, PLC, VFDs, safety PLCs, and third-party packaged equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting of subsystems such as packaged equipment, life-critical safety systems, VFDs, starters, valves, PID controllers, HVAC, and third-party equipment.
  • Design, develop, and optimize human-machine interfaces, SCADA systems, and MES interfaces.
  • Lead the implementation and validation of control code for safety-rated systems (SIL/PL).
  • Provide technical support to instrumentation technicians during device commissioning.
  • Collaborate with process design teams to develop process control narratives, process, and instrumentation diagrams to ensure safe and reliable operation of process systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience as a control systems engineer, with proficiency in Siemens PLC and Ignition SCADA systems.
  • Proven experience commissioning new systems, conducting site acceptance testing, and supporting system ramp-up.
  • Additional experience with PLC platforms such as Beckhoff, Allen-Bradley, and Omron is preferred.
  • Familiarity with modern communication protocols including Profinet, EtherCAT, Ethernet IP, and Modbus TCP.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals with demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems.
  • Experience managing controls projects from concept development through commissioning and operational ramp-up.
  • Supporting a running production facility experience is highly desirable.
  • Participation in process hazard reviews and HazOps.
  • Knowledge of safety-rated control systems and related standards.
