Mate (Unlimited Tonnage – Inland)
Job Summary:
Join a dynamic and essential maritime team as a licensed Mate supporting high-traffic inland waterways. As a key leader onboard, you will oversee navigational duties, support deck operations, and uphold regulatory standards, contributing to a safe and reliable ferry service in Cape May, NJ.
Responsibilities:
- Stand navigational watches as assigned, ensuring safe passage through busy waterways.
- Assist in the safe operation of vessels, supporting crew and operational safety protocols.
- Support deck operations and supervise crew activities to maintain high standards of safety and efficiency.
- Participate in shipyard periods and assist with vessel maintenance during off-season periods.
- Ensure compliance with US Coast Guard (USCG) and company operational standards.
- Obtain First Class Pilotage (Sea to Brandywine Shoal) within 120 days of hire to enhance operational capabilities.
Requirements:
- Valid USCG Mate License (Unlimited Tonnage – Inland, Great Lakes, or Near Coastal).
- Radar Observer endorsement.
- FCC Marine Radio Operator Permit.
- Valid TWIC card.
- Ability to reside within commuting distance of Cape May, NJ.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Relevant maritime training or certification.
- Experience working in high-traffic or ferry operations.
Other Requirements:
- Shift-based schedule typically consisting of 5 days on / 2 days off, with potential seasonal adjustments.
- Non-rotational schedule allowing most nights at home.
