Chief Engineer
Job Summary
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and management of all vessel machinery and engineering systems while working offshore on a rotational basis of 28 days. This pivotal role oversees the Engine Department, ensuring that main engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary equipment are maintained and operated in compliance with company procedures, vessel requirements, and maritime regulations. The Chief Engineer supervises engineering personnel, coordinates preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoots equipment issues, maintains engineering records, monitors fuel and spare parts, and guarantees the vessel’s machinery and emergency systems remain fully operational. Working closely with the Master and shore-based management, this role supports safe, reliable offshore vessel operations and ensures adherence to safety, environmental, and maritime standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of all vessel machinery and engineering systems.
- Supervise engineering personnel, providing leadership and technical guidance.
- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure optimal vessel performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues promptly to minimize operational downtime.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, including maintenance logs and operational reports.
- Monitor fuel consumption, spare parts inventory, and equipment performance.
- Ensure all machinery and emergency systems are fully operational and compliant with safety and regulatory standards.
- Work collaboratively with the Master and shore-based management to support safe and efficient vessel operations.
- Support compliance with all safety, environmental, and maritime regulations and procedures.
Requirements
- Proven experience in managing vessel machinery and engineering systems in a maritime environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and coordinate engineering personnel.
- Knowledge of main engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary equipment.
- Familiarity with maritime safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex machinery issues efficiently.
- Excellent record-keeping and reporting skills.
- Willingness to work offshore on a rotational basis of 28 days.
- Relevant certifications and licenses as required by maritime regulations.
- Ability to work closely with diverse teams and shore-based management to ensure operational excellence.
