Drillship Mate
Job Summary
The Drillship Mate supports the Master and assists the Chief Mate in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of marine and deck operations, including bulk product handling. This role plays a vital part in maintaining compliance with all safety regulations and company standards, overseeing the transfer of bulk materials between supply vessels, storage silos, and the cement unit.
Responsibilities
- Support the Chief Mate in the operation, maintenance, and readiness of marine and deck equipment, including firefighting, lifesaving appliances, and bulk handling systems.
- Supervise deck operations to ensure activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures and regulatory standards.
- Assist the Master and Chief Mate with flag and class surveys, statutory inspections, and audits, ensuring accurate documentation and record-keeping.
- Participate in the inspection, monitoring, and maintenance of marine, navigational, safety, and emergency systems; support the Chief Mate in maintaining preventive maintenance and inspection records within the Vessel Asset Management System (VAMS).
- Ensure the safe handling, transfer, stowage, and securing of materials and equipment, complying with all safety and regulatory requirements.
- Support safe deck operations, monitor cargo activities, supply vessel operations, and helicopter activities to maintain watertight integrity.
- Assist with the maintenance, deployment, and recovery of hydrophones and transponders.
- Support vessel stability management by monitoring draft and trim, reporting deviations or concerns to the Chief Mate and Master.
- Provide supervision, guidance, and support to assigned crew, promoting safe and efficient vessel operations.
- Promote and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and the Company Management System. Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency drills to enhance operational readiness and continuous improvement.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within assigned areas.
- Support onboard training and crew familiarization activities.
- Promptly report incidents, near misses, non-conformities, and operational concerns to the Chief Mate or Master.
- As a Barrier Authority (BA), support the Company Management System by performing barrier verification activities and reporting deficiencies.
Requirements
- Completion of all required training and certification for the Drillship Mate position, as outlined in the training matrix.
- Valid STCW Officer of the Watch (II/1) Certificate or higher, with current flag state endorsement.
- Valid STCW certification.
- Knowledge of all technical calculations necessary for safe marine vessel operations.
- Ability to perform emergency procedures, including evacuations and fire drills.
- Excellent knowledge of navigational systems, marine operations, and safety procedures.
