Estimator – Marine Construction / Dredging
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Estimator to support the development and pricing of complex marine construction and dredging projects. The ideal candidate will possess substantial estimating experience within marine construction, dredging, or a closely related heavy civil construction environment. This role involves reviewing project specifications, drawings, bid documents, and scopes of work to produce accurate cost estimates and competitive proposals. The Estimator will collaborate closely with operations, project management, engineering, subcontractors, and vendors throughout the bidding and preconstruction phases, playing a vital role in securing successful project execution.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for marine construction and/or dredging projects.
- Review project plans, drawings, specifications, bid packages, and contract documents to determine scope and requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop estimates for labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production costs.
- Evaluate project execution needs, including equipment utilization, manpower, mobilization, and project duration.
- Solicit and assess pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and equipment vendors.
- Develop comprehensive bid breakdowns, cost models, and pricing strategies.
- Identify project risks, scope gaps, and potential cost exposures during the estimating process.
- Participate in bid reviews and preconstruction meetings with operations and project leadership.
- Coordinate with project managers and field teams to validate production assumptions and construction methodologies.
- Assist in developing schedules, project execution plans, and bid strategies.
- Maintain historical estimating data and leverage past project performance to enhance future estimates.
- Support change order pricing and cost analysis as needed.
- Ensure all estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with company financial and operational goals.
Requirements
- Proven estimating experience in marine construction or dredging is essential.
- Candidates with experience in heavy civil construction involving waterfront, coastal, port, terminal, or marine infrastructure projects will be strongly considered.
- Strong understanding of construction estimating principles, cost development, and bid preparation.
- Experience reviewing construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents.
- Ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop labor, equipment, and material cost estimates.
- Knowledge of heavy construction equipment, production rates, and project execution requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines efficiently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operations, project management, engineering, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Preferred candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related fields, or equivalent industry experience.
- Additional experience estimating dredging projects, waterfront infrastructure, ports, bulkheads, seawalls, pile driving, marine foundations, or coastal construction is highly desirable.
- Willingness to travel and obtain relevant certifications as required.
