General Manager – Industrial Maintenance & Operations
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to assume the role of General Manager overseeing a vital industrial depot operation. This executive will be responsible for driving all aspects of safety, quality, production, personnel development, continuous improvement, and cost management. The successful candidate will lead the facility’s overall operational performance and profitability, while cultivating a high-performing management team and fostering a culture of accountability and operational excellence within a fast-paced industrial environment. An ideal candidate possesses a strong background in manufacturing, heavy equipment, transportation, or industrial maintenance, with a proven track record of managing large teams and complex operations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day depot operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality standards are met.
- Develop, mentor, and build a resilient management team and workforce to ensure high performance.
- Establish and enforce standard operating procedures, policies, and best practices.
- Drive operational efficiency, productivity, and profitability through strategic initiatives.
- Plan staffing and resources to align with operational demands.
- Promote and sustain a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
- Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety teams to reduce incidents and enhance workplace safety.
- Spend significant time on the production floor supporting employees and implementing continuous improvement strategies.
- Monitor key performance indicators related to production, billing, collections, inventory, and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate with third-party service providers and inspectors to ensure quality standards and warranty procedures are upheld, including root cause investigations.
- Identify opportunities for capital improvements and operational enhancements.
- Enforce adherence to company policies and operational standards consistently across the facility.
Requirements:
- Proven experience managing an industrial, manufacturing, maintenance, logistics, transportation, or depot facility with approximately 40 or more employees.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred; however, equivalent management experience (15+ years) will also be considered.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing budgets, workforce planning, safety initiatives, production, inventory, and continuous improvement projects.
- Strong understanding of business operations, strategic planning, resource allocation, and personnel management.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in a dynamic, fast-paced industrial setting.
- ASME welding knowledge is a plus.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Preferred experience in industries such as heavy equipment fleet maintenance, transportation, manufacturing, petrochemical, rail, intermodal operations, or equipment repair.
