Marine Barge Operations Manager

Job Summary
This pivotal leadership role requires a strategic thinker with extensive industry knowledge to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and workforce coordination. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in marine fuel transfer, tank barge operations, and USCG regulations, playing a key role in maintaining safety standards and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily tank barge operations and Tankerman activities, ensuring smooth and compliant operations.
  • Ensure adherence to all Federal, State, Port, and industry regulations and operating procedures.
  • Supervise Tankerman leadership personnel and operational teams, supporting hiring, training, evaluations, and PIC qualification processes.
  • Coordinate with customer operational representatives to uphold vetting and compliance standards.
  • Assist in developing and implementing operational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in project reviews and operational planning initiatives.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance by maintaining training, audits, and barge inspection programs.
  • Support equipment maintenance, purchasing, and inventory management.
  • Ensure all operational documentation and regulatory records stay up to date and compliant
  • Provide leadership, direction, and operational support to marine personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the tank barge industry.
  • At least 5 years of ship bunkering or petroleum transfer operations experience.
  • USCG-issued Merchant Mariner Credential with Barge DL PIC endorsement required.
  • Strong knowledge of State and Federal regulations related to petroleum transfer and marine transportation.
  • Proven experience in training and evaluating marine personnel.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience working with customer vetting requirements and operational standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Valid TWIC card and driver’s license required.
  • Availability during standard business hours with flexibility for after-hours, weekend, and holiday operational communications.
