Marine Engineering & Design Manager (Shipbuilding)

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Engineering & Design Manager to spearhead the technical development of shipbuilding projects from initial concept through to production. This pivotal role involves overseeing multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring vessel designs meet stringent performance, regulatory, and production standards. Acting as a key liaison between design, production, and project stakeholders, the successful candidate will drive execution in a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard environment. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned ship design professional to lead full lifecycle projects and influence technical standards within the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all engineering design activities across multiple vessel projects.
  • Oversee the development of structural, outfitting, and production drawings.
  • Guide the technical solution from concept through delivery, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Ensure compliance with ABS, USCG, SOLAS, and other applicable standards.
  • Collaborate closely with production teams to resolve design conflicts during construction.
  • Manage engineering deliverables, schedules, and documentation to meet project timelines.
  • Lead design reviews, technical presentations, and stakeholder updates.
  • Identify technical risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor and develop engineering team members to foster growth and excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7–12+ years of experience in ship design or shipyard engineering.
  • Prior leadership or team management experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of vessel systems including structural, propulsion, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, or similar engineering tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of classification society and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to Have Skills

  • Experience with new vessel design and construction programs.
  • Background in government or commercial vessel projects.
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Exposure to concept design and technical proposal development.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 7 or more years of relevant experience, with a track record of managing complex shipbuilding projects.
