Mechanical Commissioning Engineer

Job Summary

This pivotal role involves providing on-site quality control support during equipment installation and commissioning, ensuring all work aligns with design specifications, industry standards, and project requirements. Your expertise will help uphold the highest standards of quality and facilitate successful project delivery in a challenging and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily field inspections of mechanical, electrical, and medium-voltage equipment installations to verify compliance with design drawings, project specifications, and industry standards.
  • Identify and document installation deficiencies or non-conformities, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Track field issues and deficiencies using Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), confirming proper documentation, assignment, follow-up, and closure.
  • Review and validate completed Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 installation and pre-commissioning checklists submitted by trade partners to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Capture lessons learned throughout the project and maintain a comprehensive register of observations and recommendations, culminating in a final summary report at project closeout.
  • Provide timely updates to the Owner’s team regarding observations that might impact schedule, budget, or design intent, escalating concerns as necessary.
  • Operate strictly in an observer capacity, communicating findings directly to the Owner’s project team without directing or instructing trade partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of construction experience, with significant expertise in mission-critical or data center environments.
  • Proven track record supporting installation, commissioning, or quality control processes on large-scale construction projects, especially within data center or hyperscale facilities.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and medium-voltage equipment installation and commissioning documentation.
  • Experience with construction quality control standards and processes.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or comparable construction management tools, along with excellent documentation and reporting skills.
  • Mechanical expertise is a plus, particularly experience with water-to-rack liquid cooling systems, TCS (Technology Cooling System) loops, CDU (Coolant Distribution Units), and cooling infrastructure commissioning within data centers.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in Abilene, Texas.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with clarity in documenting technical observations.
  • Preferred experience includes working within hyperscale or mission-critical project environments.
