Job Summary
Reporting to the Salvage Master / Head of Salvage Operations, this role provides technical engineering support for marine salvage, wreck removal, and emergency response projects. You will assess vessel stability and structural conditions, develop engineering calculations and technical plans, and support the project team in making safe operational decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain hydrostatic and stability models for vessels involved in salvage operations.
  • Assess intact and damage stability, trim, list, freeboard, and structural risks using available vessel and survey data.
  • Evaluate the effects of cargo removal, dewatering, ballast changes, lifting, and environmental conditions.
  • Recommend safe operational sequences and provide timely technical advice to the Salvage Master.
  • Prepare lift plans, load calculations, rigging arrangements, and safe working load assessments.
  • Calculate lifting forces, centres of gravity, padeye loads, and relevant safety factors.
  • Prepare technical drawings and engineering plans using AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Review proposed operations and identify engineering risks before execution.
  • Work closely with Salvage Masters, Project Managers, surveyors, and operational teams.
  • Prepare stability assessments, engineering updates, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Maintain clear records of engineering assumptions, models, drawings, and revisions.
  • Liaise with vessel owners, class societies, insurers, and other stakeholders when required.
  • Support safe execution of salvage, cargo transfer, lifting, and emergency response activities.
  • Identify technical hazards and recommend appropriate risk controls and operating limits.
  • Ensure engineering plans and calculations follow applicable marine standards and procedures.

Requirements

  • Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Practical experience in marine salvage, casualty response, or complex marine operations.
  • Strong knowledge of hydrostatics, intact and damage stability, and vessel structural behaviour.
  • Experience with GHS or similar stability modelling software.
  • Ability to prepare lift plans, engineering calculations, and technical drawings in AutoCAD or similar.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and reporting skills; fluent written and spoken English.
  • Preferred qualifications: experience in grounding, wreck removal, cargo and hydrocarbon removal, or emergency towage; familiarity with P&I Clubs, classification societies, and marine casualty survey processes; experience supporting live operations with changing vessel conditions and short deadlines; previous involvement in international salvage and emergency response projects.
  • Working arrangements: project-based or long-term engagement depending on operational requirements; remote engineering support, office-based work, or deployment to project locations may be required; flexibility to provide urgent technical support outside standard hours during active operations.
