Offshore Welder
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Offshore Welder to join an ultra-deepwater drillship operating in the Gulf. This critical role supports the rig’s maintenance team by performing structural and mechanical welding, fabrication, and repair work essential for maintaining safe and efficient drilling operations. The ideal candidate is hands-on, capable of working throughout the vessel, and able to complete welding and fabrication tasks independently while adhering to strict safety standards. Previous experience on drillships or offshore drilling platforms is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and fabrication of handrails, ladders, platforms, supports, brackets, equipment foundations, deck structures, pipe supports, drainage systems, guards, and other steel components across the rig.
- Assist with repairs to drilling support equipment, cranes, pipe-handling systems, machinery foundations, and structural components as needed.
- Safely execute cutting, grinding, fitting, gouging, welding, and fabrication using approved processes, following company procedures, hot work requirements, and offshore safety standards.
- Read fabrication drawings, repair sketches, welding procedures, and work from maintenance work orders to complete repairs to specifications.
- Collaborate with Mechanics, Electricians, Subsea personnel, Crane Operators, and the Rig Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment upgrades.
- Identify damaged components, recommend repair methods, and ensure quality repairs in an offshore environment.
- Follow all safety protocols, including Permit to Work, gas testing, fire watch coordination, and proper documentation, to ensure safe operations with minimal disruption to drilling activities.
Requirements
- Updated resume with relevant experience.
- Previous offshore drilling experience is highly preferred.
- Structural and/or pipe welding experience.
- Proficiency with SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and oxy-fuel cutting techniques.
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and welding procedures.
- Familiarity with offshore Permit to Work and hot work procedures.
- Current Offshore Medical certification.
- Valid BOSIET / FOET / THUET, RigPass or SafeGulf certification.
- TWIC card or equivalent U.S. Passport or Government-Issued ID.
- Ability to step onboard, assess work safely, and produce quality repairs while supporting safe and efficient drilling operations.
