Senior Instrumentation Engineer

Job Summary
This role will be responsible for specifying, designing, and maintaining instrumentation systems that ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our processes. Your expertise will support the development of maintenance strategies, calibration, troubleshooting, and integration of complex control networks.

Responsibilities

  • Specify and select instruments in accordance with company standards and operational requirements.
  • Design and develop maintenance plans for instrumentation systems.
  • Develop spare parts strategies and BOM lists to optimize inventory management.
  • Maintain engineering documentation, including instrument data sheets, P&IDs, and PFDs.
  • Provide training and guidance to technicians on installation, calibration, troubleshooting, replacement, and integration of instruments within control networks.
  • Develop and implement lifecycle programs for instruments, communication networks, and I/O devices, following vendor recommendations and company standards.
  • Support the implementation and improvement of control narratives in coordination with operations and process automation teams.
  • Evaluate and manage vendor contracts for services and equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline from an accredited program; five (5) years of relevant experience in Electrical or Instrumentation engineering, or Master’s degree with three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to specify and select instrumentation components.
  • Strong knowledge of communication platforms and protocols such as Hart, Devicenet, Modbus TCP/RTU, Ethernet-I/P, Profibus DP, Profinet.
  • Familiarity with network, PLC, or DCS hardware and software, including Human-Machine Interface (HMI).
  • Experience with installation, configuration, calibration, and maintenance of process instruments (level, flow, density, weight, pressure, temperature, actuators, pH, metal detection, gas, etc.).
  • Broad understanding of electronics principles, mechanical, and process engineering practices.
  • Ability to research complex information, analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Skilled in managing large and complex engineering projects.
  • Ability to evaluate and implement operational improvements using new methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety protocols, with a strong commitment to safety practices.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience with robotics, mechatronics, valve maintenance, MSHA, NFPA, data analysis, and experience within the mining industry.
