Senior Process Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Engineer to lead paint manufacturing operations, process engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives within a high-volume industrial manufacturing environment. This pivotal role involves overseeing electrocoating (E-coat), sealing, topcoat application, and robotic paint systems, supporting the installation, commissioning, and ongoing operation of an advanced paint facility. The successful candidate will manage a team of process engineers and technicians, ensuring optimal production efficiency and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of paint process engineers and technicians.
- Oversee all aspects of paint manufacturing processes, including E-coat, sealing, topcoat, and robotic application systems.
- Drive the design, equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and production launch activities of paint lines.
- Monitor and optimize system performance, process chemistry, coating quality, and equipment uptime.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing defects, process variations, and equipment issues to maintain continuous operation.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
- Manage engineering projects, including budgets, schedules, equipment specifications, and capital investments.
- Establish process controls, operating procedures, and manufacturing performance standards.
- Support plant layout, workstation design, production line balancing, and labor optimization efforts.
- Evaluate and recommend manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and automation technologies.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to resolve operational challenges.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols.
- Provide technical leadership during new product introductions, process modifications, and manufacturing expansions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive or industrial paint manufacturing operations.
- Proficiency with electrocoating (E-coat), industrial paint application, and robotic painting systems.
- Knowledge of paint process controls, coating quality, equipment troubleshooting, and manufacturing optimization.
- Experience supporting manufacturing equipment installation, commissioning, or production operations.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and coordinate cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to work third shift (8:30 PM to 5:00 AM EST).
- Preferably, experience leading or supervising process engineers or manufacturing teams.
- Background in automotive, commercial vehicle, heavy equipment, or industrial manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of automated paint lines, robotic spray applications, and paint booth systems.
- Proven track record of managing capital equipment projects and manufacturing facility launches.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills.
