Shipping & Receiving Specialist
Job Summary
We’re hiring a Shipping & Receiving Specialist to support day-to-day material flow in a fabrication/manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for receiving and verifying incoming materials, staging items for production, and preparing finished goods for shipment—while maintaining strong safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Receiving
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders and packing slips
- Confirm shipment quantities match purchase orders and packing lists
- Mark work order (WO) numbers on incoming materials and organize/stage materials for production readiness
- Label hardware and store appropriately (bags/boxes)
- Communicate backorders, discrepancies, and urgent needs to the appropriate internal stakeholders
Shipping
- Prepare finished products for shipment, ensuring items are packaged, labeled, and documented to customer and carrier requirements
- Prepare items being shipped out for outsourcing (labeling, palletizing, boxing)
- Review drawings and job notes for loose items and special instructions to ensure complete shipments
- Take photos of completed jobs and store them per internal process
Operational Support
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently
- Maintain a clean, safe work area aligned with HSE expectations
- Follow internal operating procedures and quality system requirements
- Perform other duties as needed to support operations
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or relevant certification (supply chain, logistics, etc.) preferred
- 2+ years of experience in purchasing, receiving, shipping, or inventory management (manufacturing/industrial preferred)
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); ERP/inventory system experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/specifications related to welding and fabrication
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Ability to lift/move 50+ lbs safely and use material-handling equipment (forklifts, cranes, dollies)
