Assistant Port Engineer / Maintenance Analyst
Job Summary
This pivotal role supports vessel maintenance operations, technical management, and computerized maintenance system administration for a fleet of ocean-going vessels. Combining hands-on port engineering support with maintenance tracking and reporting, this position offers an excellent opportunity for candidates with a marine engineering background to grow within shore-side vessel operations and technical management.
Responsibilities
- Support the Port Engineer with maintenance, repair, and technical oversight of assigned vessels
- Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance planning for vessel machinery and equipment
- Manage and maintain vessel data within computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Track maintenance activities, repairs, spare parts inventory, and technical documentation
- Generate maintenance and operational reports to support contractual and operational requirements
- Conduct vessel inspections and assist in identifying maintenance priorities and operational deficiencies
- Coordinate with vessel crews, vendors, contractors, and shipyard personnel regarding maintenance activities
- Assist with troubleshooting technical issues and minimizing vessel downtime
- Support compliance with company safety management systems and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair histories, and equipment hierarchy documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering or related technical discipline preferred
- Sailing experience aboard commercial ocean-going vessels strongly preferred
- USCG engineering license preferred (Chief Engineer, First Assistant Engineer, or Second Assistant Engineer)
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems such as ABS NS5, NS Enterprise, AMOS, or similar platforms
- Strong technical understanding of vessel machinery systems and shipboard operations
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database/reporting systems
- Ability to work independently within a fast-paced operational environment
- TWIC credential required or ability to obtain one
- Ability to obtain or maintain U.S. government security clearance may be required
