Cost Controller

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cost Controller to join our team and support our owner projects through comprehensive cost and schedule control services. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the owner’s trusted advisor, managing project costs, validating change orders, and ensuring financial and schedule integrity throughout all phases of construction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cost control and schedule control services, collaborating closely with owner stakeholders, consultants, and contractors.
  • Perform cost estimating on an as-needed basis across various project stages.
  • Validate change orders by reviewing costs, labor rates, productivity, material quotes, contractual adherence, and schedule impacts.
  • Manage cost reporting, budget tracking, and forecasting, including risk identification and contingency management using the owner’s project dashboard.
  • Coordinate external estimating resources and generate cash flow forecasts.
  • Evaluate and approve commitments and proposals, ensuring alignment with project budgets and schedules.
  • Collaborate with general contractors on commitment and cash flow reporting, and prepare quarterly accrual estimates.
  • Ensure project schedules are accurate and aligned with cost forecasts by coordinating with scheduling teams and validating schedule estimates from construction managers.
  • Support project close-out activities, including purchase orders and contracts.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on cost forecasting and project financial health.
  • Maintain internal benchmarking and estimating databases, and support project managers during cost and owner’s advisory meetings.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and assist in project risk management.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in cost control, project management, or construction financial analysis.
  • Strong skills in cost estimating, change order validation, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with project dashboards, forecasting tools, and financial analysis software.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to validate schedules and coordinate with construction teams to ensure project alignment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and math skills.
  • Relevant certifications or training in project controls or cost management are a plus.
