Location: Charlotte, NC
Pay: $19.50/hour

Position Summary
The Leaf Collector is responsible for the seasonal removal of loose leaves and yard debris from residential streets, curbs, and rights-of-way using leaf collection trucks and vacuum equipment. This is a physically demanding, outdoor role that operates in all weather conditions and is essential to keeping streets, storm drains, and public areas clear during the fall leaf season.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a leaf collection truck and leaf vacuum machine to remove loose leaves from roads, curbs, and designated collection zones.
  • Load leaves and yard debris into trucks and transport loads to the designated disposal or composting site.
  • Rake, blow, and hand-clear leaves from curbs and hard-to-reach areas ahead of vacuum equipment.
  • Assist crew members with hose handling, spotting, and traffic awareness during collection.
  • Operate related grounds equipment as assigned, which may include loaders, skid steers, dump trucks, backhoes, and mowing equipment.
  • Perform daily pre- and post-shift equipment inspections; report mechanical issues and perform routine maintenance (fueling, greasing, clearing clogs).
  • Follow all safety procedures, traffic control protocols, and PPE requirements while working in and near active roadways.
  • Keep job sites, equipment, and trucks clean and organized.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record. CDL Class B strongly preferred (required for operating the collection truck at some employers).
  • Ability to perform sustained physical labor: standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working outdoors in cold, wet, and dusty conditions.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings and occasional overtime during peak leaf season.
  • Strong attention to safety and the ability to work as part of a crew.
