Navy Outside Machinist

Job Summary
Join our team as a Navy Outside Machinist and play a vital role in maintaining and repairing critical naval vessels. Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems aboard naval ships and submarines.
  • Align, troubleshoot, and overhaul pumps, valves, turbines, compressors, and propulsion systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and NAVSEA drawings accurately.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to meet exact tolerances.
  • Execute shaft alignments, bearing replacements, and system testing.
  • Work in confined spaces, at heights, and within industrial shipyard environments.
  • Follow all NAVSEA, OSHA, and company safety protocols diligently.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, supervisors, and other trades to complete projects on schedule.

Requirements

  • Active Secret Clearance (or higher) – REQUIRED.
  • Minimum of 3–5+ years of experience as an Outside Machinist in a shipyard or marine environment.
  • Strong knowledge of naval vessel mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with precision alignment and mechanical assembly.
  • Capable of passing background checks, drug screening, and physical requirements.
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime as needed.

Nice to Have Skills

  • Experience supporting U.S. Navy ship maintenance/repair (NAVSEA standards).
  • Prior military service or work in defense contracting environments.
  • Additional certifications such as OSHA 10/30, Shipyard Competent Person, NCCER.
  • Experience with submarine or nuclear vessel programs.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Relevant technical training or certifications in marine or mechanical systems.
  • Proven track record in industrial shipyard settings with exposure to heavy equipment and confined spaces.
