Shipbuilding Field Engineer (Production / New Construction)
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Shipbuilding Field Engineer to play a vital role in the successful construction of new vessels. This position serves as the essential link between engineering design and production execution, ensuring that complex vessel systems are built accurately and efficiently. The ideal candidate thrives in a hands-on environment, working closely with trades and project teams to drive progress, solve problems in real time, and ensure seamless project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Support vessel construction through field engineering and production coordination
- Develop and refine build strategies for new vessel programs
- Coordinate routing and installation of piping, electrical, and structural systems
- Provide real-time problem solving during construction and installation phases
- Update drawings and maintain accurate as-built documentation
- Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret design intent and resolve issues
- Work closely with production supervisors and subcontractors to ensure proper execution
- Ensure compliance with ABS, USCG, and shipyard standards
- Assist with material planning, procurement input, and scheduling improvements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine, Mechanical, Structural Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5–10+ years of shipyard or new-build vessel experience
- Strong understanding of vessel systems including piping, electrical, and structural components
- Proven experience working directly with production teams and trades
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and familiarity with ShipConstructor software
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Nice to Have Skills
- Experience with new vessel construction programs
- Build strategy, module breakdown, and production planning expertise
- Support for commissioning and installation processes
- Background in fast-paced shipyard environments
Preferred Education and Experience
